Resveratrol Powder and Why I Don’t Use It
Resveratrol powder manufacturers set their recommended dosages much higher than when taking this antioxidant in a capsule form. This is done in part because stomach acids destroy part of the nutrient when it comes into contact with it.
Because of what happens in the stomach it is hard to measure just exactly how much resveratrol your cells end up with. The same goes for capsules if they are not enteric coated. Supplements that are enteric coated don’t break down in the stomach where the acids can quickly destroy nutrients. Instead they break down in the intestines where the nutrients are absorbed in the intestinal walls and into the bloodstream.
Another drawback of resveratrol powder is the cost. Most are out of range of the average person. The ones that are relatively inexpensive are usually made form inferior sources, and have a very low percentage of the antioxidant properties included in them at all.
If the powder is from Japanese knotweed, which is one of the more inexpensive varieties, it contains emodim. Emodim is a laxative. Some powders contain 10% of this substance, and with the high-recommended dosages of 500 mg – 1500 mg a day, that is a lot of laxative power. If you wanted to use emodim that way, you would need less than 50 mg. A more reasonable amount would be 20mg. And an even better way to keep your self regular would be with fiber from whole grain foods.
I don’t take resveratrol powder. Instead I get 20 mg a day in a daily supplement that also includes vitamins, mineral, herbs, amino acids and other antioxidants that all work together to give me a totally balanced nutrient that helps me maintain optimal health.
I like the idea of everything in one capsule. It simplifies my life. It’s more cost effective and ensures me of getting all the nutrients I need. And because it is enteric coated I know all the health benefits get to my bloodstream where my body needs it. Check it out. You can find out more info in my bio section below.
